The 2019 Agribusiness Showcase & Conference will feature seminars and workshops focusing on the latest industry innovation and technology and the largest indoor field-day in the nation. Experts from agribusiness, regulatory agencies, and educational institutions will be presenting to attendees. All speakers are nationally recognized in their profession.

Governor Kim Reynolds

Kim Reynolds understands the challenges families face because she’s faced them herself. A fifth-generation Iowan, she grew up in a working-class family in St. Charles, Iowa. A recognized leader in state and local issues, Kim served as county treasurer and state senator before becoming lieutenant governor and governor.

Through it all, she never gave up her dream of graduating from college. So, she balanced family and work while taking classes at night. In 2016, while serving as lieutenant governor, Kim earned her degree from Iowa State University at the age of 57.

Daniel J. Robison from West Virginia University has been named the next endowed dean of Iowa State University’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, and director of the Iowa Agricultural and Home Economics Experiment Station.

Robison, dean of the WVU Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Design and director of the West Virginia Agriculture and Forestry Experiment Station, will begin his tenure by March 31, 2019.

Mike Naig learned the value of hard work as he grew up helping his dad and uncle run their crop and livestock farm in the northwest corner of the state near Cylinder, Iowa. He is still involved in the operation today.

Mike graduated from Buena Vista University in Storm Lake with degrees in biology and political science. He and his wife, Jaime, have three boys.

Julie Kenney grew up on a family farm near Lohrville, Iowa. She learned the value of hard work and determination early in life by helping her parents and grandparents on their crop and livestock farm and in their seed dealership. Today, Julie, her husband Mark, and their family own and operate a corn and soybean farm in Story County.

Before joining the Department, Julie had been active in the agribusiness industry for nearly 15 years, serving in marketing and communications roles for private industry and state and national associations and checkoff programs.

Julie is a graduate of Simpson College in Indianola with a degree in marketing. She and her husband Mark have two children.

Dr. Manjit Misra, Professor & Seed Science Endowed Chair, Iowa State University Seed Science Center

The professional contributions of Manjit Misra, director of ISU’s Seed Science Center, have brought honor and distinction to Iowa State University. ISU’s Seed Science Center is considered a national and international leader in seed research and technology, and because of Misra’s outstanding leadership, it is today also home of the United States Department of Agriculture’s National Seed Health System (NSHS). The NSHS is responsible for providing specific standards for laboratory seed health tests and seed crop field inspections that are used at the federal level and in establishing export regulations.

Because of his extensive knowledge about Iowa agriculture and his unbiased approach to research, Misra has also been named Director of the Institute for Food Safety and Security and the Biosafety Institute for Genetically Modified Agricultural Products. These programs have a direct and vital impact on the global food chain, consumer safety, and the environment.

John Latham, President, Latham Hi-Tech Seeds

John Latham is president of Latham Hi-Tech Seeds, and the North Central Regional Vice President for ASTA. For ASTA he serves as a liaison with state and regional associations on national legislation.

John takes great pride in selecting products that bear his family’s name. As company president, he has solid relationships with the industry’s top genetics suppliers and plant breeders. Before founding his own hybrid seed corn business in 2004, John had 14 years of soybeans sales and marketing experience with Latham Seed Company.

Luther Smith, Director or Professional Development, American Society of Agronomy

Luther Smith, CAE, is the Director of Professional Development and Business Relations for the American Society of Agronomy (ASA); Crop Science Society of America (CSSA) and Soil Science Society of America (SSSA).

Luther provides leadership for the Societies’ certification programs, continuing education development, and business relationships.  His background includes experiences in on-farm production, on-farm marketing, Extension education and over 23 years in association management leading the ICCA Program.  He earned a BS degree in Farm Operation and an MBA.  He is co-owner and principle operator of Blue Sky Bison located near Mineral Point, Wisconsin.

Mark Reisinger, Marketing Director, PivotBio

Mark is responsible for building brand awareness among Pivot Bio's farmer customer base. Leveraging his broad ag policy, trade, and marketing experience, Mark leads marketing at Pivot Bio. During his career at DuPont Pioneer, he worked with the company’s seed treatment business, leading several product launches; served as the global grain trade lead and worked extensively within industry relations. Prior to this, he was the Iowa state director for USDA Rural Development and later served as the CEO of the Agribusiness Association of Iowa.

Megan Vollstedt, Executive Director, Iowa AgriTech Accelerator

A native of Manilla, Iowa – population 777 – Megan graduated from Iowa State in 2012 with a bachelor of arts degree in English and minor in advertising. She started her professional career as a communications intern in 2011 for WebFilings, an Ames-based startup. She was asked to help grow the communications team and their intranet.

Vollstedt is responsible for establishing and maintaining a collaborative learning environment for the startups who come to Des Moines and participate in the program. With her help, the startups receive mentorship from over 50 mentors and receive on-site experience to advance their innovations.

Dr. Robert Denson, President, Des Moines Area Community College

Rob Denson was appointed the fourth President of Des Moines Area Community College on November 1, 2003.

Rob grew up on a farm near Homestead, Iowa, south of the Amana Colonies, and graduated from high school in Marengo, Iowa. The first native-born Iowan to be President of DMACC, Rob has a B.S. in Political Science and Economics and an M.S. in Higher Education Administration from Iowa State University. He worked for Iowa State as an Assistant Dean for three years before moving to Florida to serve as an Assistant Dean of Students.
